'T-Mobile Customer Reward Program' Scam
"T-Mobile Customer Reward Program" is the name given to yet another scam that is being circulated using various domains and websites online.
The scam campaign combines features typical for both scam websites and misleading pages that push unsolicited advertising in your browser. Landing on a page that hosts the scam, you will see the browser's default "allow notifications" dialog and if you click "allow" you will allow intrusive, potentially harmful ads in your browser.
The content of the page itself will center around a fake giveaway of expensive Samsung and Apple handheld devices, allegedly handed out by T-Mobile, a big telecom company. The page also contains a timer intended to create a sense of urgency and make scam victims take action without thinking.
If the victim attempts to click the buttons on the page that should enter them into the fake giveaway, they are forwarded to another malicious phishing page that will attempt to harvest a wide range of personal information on the victim. This information includes full name, email address and even mobile phone number. The information is solicited under the pretense that it is needed for entering the fake giveaway.
There are many similar scams online that dangle expensive but very fake rewards in front of visitors in an effort to encourage them to hand over their personal information, hoping to win one of the expensive items. Remember that there is no free lunch, especially not online and when a completely random domain tells you that you won something expensive, chances are this is a scam.
