How to Fix Asus Touchpad Not Working
Different components on a laptop are often more susceptible to damage and issues than their desktop counterparts, simply because of their nature and because a laptop usually gets moved and knocked about a lot more than a desktop PC. This is also valid for your Asus laptop's touchpad. Even if you find your touchpad giving you trouble one day, don't despair. There are other reasons why it may be acting up, beyond physical damage.
First of all, you should make sure that the touchpad interface is enabled in the settings of your Windows OS. To do that, follow these steps:
- Open your start menu and click the gear-shaped Settings icon.
- In the Settings window that comes up, click on Devices.
- In the new menu, click on Touchpad in the left menu panel.
- Click on Additional Settings in the main window view on the right.
- In the new, smaller settings window that comes up, make sure that the checkbox named "Enable touchpad" is checked.
- Click OK to close the Additional Settings window.
If the issue persists beyond this point, you may want to reinstall the touchpad drivers. Even though Windows 10 would install a default driver for your touchpad, you may go to the support website of Asus and download a touchpad driver installer package that corresponds to your specific laptop model. Make sure to choose the driver package that corresponds to your current version of Windows and the OS type - 32-bit or 64-bit.
In case even a fresh driver install from the official Asus support website doesn't manage to get your touchpad back in working order, you might really be looking at an instance of mechanical damage. In this case, your best bet would be to take the laptop to a certified service center and have it examined and hopefully fixed.
