How to Remove Unwanted Firefox Addons
Modern browsers such as Firefox allow a wide range of customization. There are many extensions, plugins and addons that can be installed and that change the way the browser works.
If you want to disable and remove any Firefox addon, whether it's a plugin or an extension, follow these simple steps to return your browser to its default state.
In order to remove Firefox extensions that you no longer need, do the following:
- Click on the hamburger menu button in the upper right corner of the Firefox window
- Click on "Add-ons" in the menu that opens up
- In the new browser tab that opens, click on "Extensions" in the menu on the left
- Find the extension you want to remove and click the button with three dots on it, right of the extension's name
- Click "Remove" in the dropdown menu, then click "Remove" again in the pop-up that shows up
Repeat this process for any additional extensions you want to remove from your Firefox browser.
In order to disable any Firefox plugins that you no longer want to use, do the following:
- Click on the hamburger menu button in the upper right corner of the Firefox window
- Click on "Add-ons" in the menu that opens up
- In the new browser tab that opens, click on "Plugins" in the menu on the left
- Find the plugin that you want to disable and click the button with three dots on it, right of the plugin's name
- Click "Never activate" in the dropdown menu
Unlike themes and extensions, plugins cannot be removed from this list by default because they are system-wide tools and applications and not addons that are specifically plugged into Firefox, despite their name.
Regularly scanning your browser's plugin and extension list can help you spot any unwanted and potentially malicious addons that quietly made their way onto your system. Removing and disabling those can help your browser perform better and generally be more stable and responsive.
